Translating from and into a language
The simple conversion of one language into another, using a word processor and perhaps a dictionary, is the image of translation that commonly abounds. While this scenario has some links with real life, the translation process is, in fact, far more complicated. Using computer-assisted translation tools, online and hard copy reference material (such as lexicons, dictionaries, thesauruses, text corpora, grammatical and style guides, legacy translations and/or approved glossaries) as well as conferring with colleagues and experts over colloquialisms and/or special terminology, the translation process is one that requires patience, attention to detail, and above all, in-depth knowledge of both the source and the target language.
Our Services
Our core services include: translation, editing, desktop publishing (in all leading DTP Software, i.e. InDesign, QuarkXpress, MS Publisher, etc. and in all platforms, i.e. PC, Macintosh, and Linux), proofreading, mechanical reviewing, and transcription. We also provide especially customized services that include: translation memory maintenance, individualized glossary creation, alignment, certification, and notarization.
We have superb technical capabilities to provide the translation of written, electronic and multi-media material from source into target text, as well as a rich personnel roster to accommodate translation requests in more than 100 languages and dialects. We translate in every field of expertise, (e.g. legal/patents, financial/business, biomedical, technical/engineering, IT, art/literary, marketing, tourism/travel, games, social sciences, software localization, etc.) and our proven human and technical capabilities allow us to deliver exceptional end products, often under pressing deadlines.
Our work output comprises the translation of websites, formal correspondence, instructional posters, contracts, patents, legal documents, presentations, technical manuals, material safety data sheets, budgets, directories, reports, brochures, labels, certificates, transcripts, catalogs, marketing, literature, press releases, etc. To accommodate customary peaks in our workload, we use industry leading CAT tools installed on local area networks for simultaneous translation by multiple linguists. The utilization of shared translation memories allows for accelerated work pace, consistency and paramount efficiency. Reliance on effective technological resources enables us to complete and deliver single language-pair translation projects of up to 10,000 words each in a 24-hr time period.

At every level of execution of a translation task, whether large or small, we provide our staff with the degree of oversight and support that foster continuous high performance, quality and improvement.
Our Translation Division is linguistically supported by our language teaching expertise, as many of our instructors also serve as specialized translators. Through our rigorous vetting process, we customarily select professional translators who:
- Are native speakers and thus able to understand all clues and nuances embedded in the spoken and written language
- Have attained a high proficiency level in their working language pair(s) and provide practice-intensive training and testing, if necessary
- Are certified and experienced in their field of expertise
- Are ready to undergo all necessary background check, if required by the services to be delivered
Quality Assurance and Quality Control
Dictyon’s philosophy is to solve issues at the lowest level as soon as possible. We work assiduously to meet and exceed our customers’ expectations by adhering to an effective quality control plan that includes:
- Careful crafting and clarification of instructions for all operations along every stage of the production/delivery line
- Multiple checks of translated work by independent linguists without prior exposure to the source or target texts
- Back translation (translation from the target language to the source language) conducted on random samples of work in progress
- Final review of translations by experienced proofreaders and editors to ensure lexical and syntactical accuracy and fluidity
- Review by top management of post-delivery feedback questionnaires submitted by clients

- Translators’ professional portfolio, with particular emphasis on translation services previously rendered on materials similar in nature to the NGIC’s documents
- Translators’ native knowledge of and proficiency in Simplified Chinese as well as their near-native/native proficiency in the English language
- Translators’ past performance rating and/or the quality and caliber of professional recommendations and references
- Translators’ commitment to fulfilling all professional obligations for the entire period of performance as stipulated in the awarded contract (24 weeks).
